The Devil Asks for Nothing

The flashback that opens the episode introduces Gideon Blackwell, and he is immediately the most entertaining villain since Stratton. He returns Whitmore's sword, calls the detectives "cute puppies," admits that Beacon faked the Delphora connection, and blames the archive fire on Ruyter. He's polite, funny, and never makes an obvious threat — until he does. When the team later invites him to SSPD to share information, he suggests that if Danny and Hüseyin have a child, they should name it Gideon, or Gideonetta. It is the season's best line. The institutional story also advances. The IAA is formally shut down and replaced by the ISA, and Hüseyin is left in limbo until the final scene, when the new system wakes up and assigns Agent 1003 a single task: find Ruyter. Structurally, though, this is a meeting episode. A briefing, a strategy session, a negotiation, a debrief. Danny's "one condition" for working with Blackwell has no real leverage behind it, and Hüseyin's uncertainty about his status is explored again in almost the same words as in previous episodes.

Sitting Down with the Enemy

“Bad Company” gives a face to the threat that has been operating around the team for several episodes. Gideon Blackwell’s introduction immediately establishes the kind of antagonist he is: calm enough to enter Whitmore’s home uninvited, take his sword and conduct the entire encounter as though it were a business meeting. The episode’s most interesting choice is that Blackwell is not positioned as the immediate enemy the team needs to defeat. He admits that Beacon carried out the false Delphora intrusion in an attempt to reach information about Ruyter, while also claiming that Ruyter and Stratton’s faction have become a problem for Beacon itself. That creates an uneasy overlap of interests rather than a simple alliance. The institutional change from IAA to ISA adds another layer of uncertainty, especially for Hüseyin, whose entire professional identity is suddenly suspended during the transition. His suggestion that they invite Blackwell into SSPD is risky but narratively strong: everyone at the table knows they are using each other. The final ISA directive gives the episode a clean forward push. After several episodes of silence and confusion, Hüseyin finally receives an instruction: find Dr. Malcolm Ruyter.

Strange Bedfellows

Following the breathless cliffhanger at Captain Whitmore’s house, this chapter wastes zero time establishing a chilling new player on the board. The home invasion flashback reveals Gideon Blackwell, the smooth talking face of Beacon, delivering an icy warning directly to Whitmore. By openly admitting that Beacon executed the man in the middle hack while pinning the archive fire on a desperate Dr Malcolm Ruyter, Blackwell establishes the cult not as a pack of wild fanatics, but as an elegant, untouchable syndicate cleaning up Stratton’s messy remnants. The institutional shakeup hits hard when Whitmore announces that the IAA has been officially dismantled, replaced by the International Security Alliance. This bureaucratic pivot leaves Hüseyin stranded in professional purgatory, isolated from Delphora while the new alliance slowly takes form. The script handles his growing alienation with great restraint, anchoring him to the SSPD bullpen through pure survival instinct rather than formal authority. The true highlight of the episode is the tense negotiation inside the precinct. Bringing Blackwell into the station to strike a devil’s bargain over Ruyter’s whereabouts flips standard procedural morality upside down. Blackwell’s smug, theatrical charisma contrasts brilliantly against Whitmore’s stoic pragmatism and Danny’s quiet hostility. Both sides know they are using each other to hunt the same renegade doctor before Superseed burns. It is a sharp, dialogue driven entry that proves the smartest monsters in this universe do not hide in the dark; they walk straight into police headquarters wearing bespoke suits.
